Today (27 January 2010) at around 10.00 am convoy of Jyotirindra Bodhipriya Larma alias Santu Larma, President of Parbatya Chattagram Jana Samhati Samiti (PCJSS) and Chairman of Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT) Regional Council was attacked by armed miscreants of United Peoples Democratic Front (UPDF) at three spots, namely, Betchari under Naniachar upazila and Lemuchari and Maischari under Mahalchari upazila on his way to the Khagrachari district headquarters.
It is reported that the miscreants of UPDF threw brickbats indiscriminately and shot several fires on convey of Santu Larma and managed to flee the scenes immediately. The glass of jeep carrying Mr. Larma was damaged in the attack. Mr. Larma sustained minor glass injury in his finger. Besides, following four accompanies also sustained glass injury. They were-
(1) Mr. Tarjen Khisa, gunman of Santu Larma
(2) Mr. Jinopal Khisa, personal staff of Santu Larma
(3) Mr. Barun Kumar Chakma, member of PCJSS
(4) Mr. Udayan Tripura, President of Hill Students Council (PCP).
Santu Larma was going to Khagrachari district from Rangamati district to attend a meeting of CHT Land Dispute Resolution Commission at the circuit house.
In another incident, Nikhil Kumar, Chairman of Rangamati Hill District Council, also came under attack in Rangamati on his way to Khagrachhari circuit house in the morning. He also escaped the attack unhurt.
Soon after reaching at Khagrachari circuit house around 11:00 am, he told journalists that if the government provided him proper security, the miscreants of UPDF could not be able to carry out the attacks.
Finally, Santu Larma attended the meeting of CHT Land Dispute Resolution Commission at circuit house.
Soon after receiving report of the attack, PCJSS brought out a protest procession in Rangamati district headquarters. Speakers of the procession protested against this barbarian attack of UPDF and alleged that this UPDF attack is nothing but to hinder implementation of CHT Accord and to destroy leadership of PCJSS. PCJSS demanded to the government to take stern action against the UPDF.
On the other, Hill Students Council (PCP) also brought out a procession at Dhaka University campus. PCP also vowed to eliminate the terrorist activities of UPDF.
